MAKER SPACES

Creative kids and adults need access to a space to create. Play with their ideas and develop their skills. Current workplaces and schools are non-creative environments. Creativity needs freedom of thought and imagination to develop.  So, I've been designing, building and evaluating environments which stimulate creativity and accelerate learning for several years. Here are my past experiments:

GROUND ZERo     2011

Prototype  1

It was really terrible. It was in an abandoned building....everything i took there got stolen. Like I said, it was terrible....I don't like to talk about.

OFFICE 13     2011-2013

Prototype 2
Office 13 was a great work space. Things actually started to get donated. And at least a dozen projects got made there. There were less than 12 classes. It was also  the beginning of the Tool Library project, and our first investor.

M.T.C.     2013-2015

Prototype 3
Minion Training Center
Was the first space to be profitable.  Also the Tool Library full formed and functioned for several years.  50 Students  aged 5-35.

I also kept track of several main metrics monthly.

DUNGEON 12     2014-2015

Prototype 4
Dungeon 12 was a Community Metal / Wood Shop. Located in the old downtown. It focused on Urban Renewal and Cycling. Community members brought things in for repairs by donation.  Several other older students built projects. We also had our first in house artist.

CREATIVE SPACE   2015

Prototype 5
Creative Space was a very young maker facility.  ages 2 to 7. It was amazing to see what such young kids could imagine and then bring to life through prototyping.

  Mad  Lab    2015-2016      Prototype 6

Mad Lab was an adult Innovation Workshop. It was very dangerous and kids are not allowed to work there.

It was located on the 3rd floor of GoodWork. It was a one of a kind creative sharing space, very similar to Calgary's Protospace, To become a member you just have to bring in your tools to share with everyone. Within 8 months of operation we had a prototyping space capable for building many projects with out having to leave the building for material. It was very fast prototyping. And there were over 30 different projects created inside over the course of 20 months.

LAYER 3     current

Prototype 7
Layer 3  is a Kid's Design Studio.
The space is for creative kids to explore and develop their ideas. All the tools and materials are kid sized. Students are hand selected from local schools via teacher recommendations of aptitude.
